The American Legion Post 94 located in Snow Hill, North Carolina has been serving the community since shortly after the close of World War I, with various programs and projects. Application was made to the American Legion Department of North Carolina on April 20, 1920, for the issuance of a temporary charter for the formation of Post 94 in Snow Hill, to be known as Shirley-Hill Post 94. The application was approved with the appropriate endorsements by the American Legion headquarters, Indianapolis, Indiana on April 28, 1920. The Temporary Charter was then officially issued to the American Legion Shirley-Hill Post 94.

The American Legion Post 94 remained very active with good membership and community support during the 1920’s. However, during the Great Depression that settled over the Nation in the 1930’s the Shirley Hill Post 94 became inactive until the early 1940’s. At the close of World War II in 1945, the facility, Post 94 was revived and reorganized as an active American Legion Post.
After World War II, on August 13, 1947, an application for a permanent charter was submitted to the American Legion Headquarters. The American Legion Department of North Carolina and American Legion Headquarters respectively approved the request on August 19, 1947.
Membership in the Shirley-Hill Post 94 grew significantly after World War II and since the late 1980’s has maintained, for most years, an active annual membership of 177 members. The establishment of an approved constitution on August 2, 1988, for the Shirley-Hill Post 94 has been significant in maintaining memberships at current levels. During the growth years of the 1960’s and the Vietnam War, Shirley Hill Post 94 also became an Incorporated facility.

Today the Shirley-Hill Post 94 continues to be a vibrant establishment within the community of Snow Hill and the county. The American Legion Post 94 is an active and strong supporter of programs such as Oratorical, (Pubic Speaking) Colon Furr Nursing Scholarship, Scouting Programs, Law Enforcement and Fireman of the year, ROTC and numerous other programs.
